The ICON is back! One of the most sought after Air Force Ones ever created is back to celebrate the 10th birthday of the PlayStation 2. Itself a pop culture icon, with more than 140 million units sold around the world, the PlayStation 2 turned 10 this month.
When Nike and PlayStation first got together over 4 years ago to create the PlayStation AF1, the shoe was built into a publicity plan for their NBA basketball game. It featured not only the distinctive colorway born from the PS2 logo, but also a liner featuring imagery from NBA “The Life.” But what really set the shoe apart and made it so hot was Nike and PlayStation’s willingness to try something that hadn’t been done before - gradient color bleeds on leather. The results became the #2 all-time AF1 colorway in our 100 Greatest Kicks in Issue 24. But that wasn’t the end of the two brands collaborating.
The innovation continued when they got together again for the launch of the PlayStation 3, and the Air Max 360/90 Hybrid was born. Featuring a black patent leather upper with PlayStation 3-esque vents, 3M and an iridescent Swoosh, the shoe commemorated the 11/17/06 launch of the game system.
